Short description

"Augsburg country", tucked between the Danube valley and the Alps, third largest district in Bavaria with 240,000 inhabitants. Industrial site (SGL Carbon, Clariant, Pfersee Chemie, Müller-Milch u.a.), agriculture and forestry.

Nature reserve Augsburg with cycle and walking tracks, the baroque monasterys Oberschönenfeld (the oldest cistercian monastery in Germany), Thierhaupten and Holzen.



The Mozart family comes from the so-called "Stauden", the idyllic hill country in the south of the district. Hans Fugger, the progenitor of the house of Fugger, lived in the little village "Graben" and immigrated to Augsburg. In 955 the epoch-making "Battle on the Lech-field" near the city of Königsbrunn took place.
